NORTH EAST FOOD AND BEVERAGES

Community Development Society (CDS) is a non-profit organization registered under the Manipur Societies Registration Act 1989, established on January 31, 2013. With NABARD we have undertaken Financial Literacy Programme, Self Help Group training programme, skill development training on Aluminum Frame Assembling,  promoted 5 Farmers Clubs, 2 Farmer Producers Organisations, Rural Agro Mart, 2 Tribal Development Projects (Theihuan – 1 and Theihuan – 2).

There is no cold storage in Chruachandpur District or fruit processing unit using high-tech modern technology. There are some juice drinks production units but all of their products are made of artificial/synthetic. As there is no production unit to absorb the production of our farmers or farmers promoted by other agencies, the surplus production becomes wasted. During this long journey for livelihood promotion for the upliftment of poor tribal families in Churachandpur District, Manipur, we observed that Chruachadpur District is dire need of food processing unit (fruit processing unit) for value addition of our project beneficiaries’ farm production especially Pineapple, wild fruit, lemon, peach, mango, passion fruit. We initiated ZO FOODS (the then known as North East Food and Beverages)  to produce Pineapple Juice, Passion Juice and Lemon Juice. We procure raw materials from various FPO/FPC, Farmers promoted by CDS with the support from your NABARD and other non-project beneficiary farmers.

This initiative is purely on our own source and we undertake the various production processes through manually with little involvement of machinery. This resulted in inferior quality of production and low capacity of production. Our experience during this process teaches us and encourage us to upgrade our production unit.

To provide market security to Farmers in Churachandpur for their farm produce, we would like to establish well setup Natural Fruit Processing Unit in Churachandpur using high tech and modern technology that will boost up their economy as the unit will be in a capacity to absorb all their farm produces.
