Community Development Society (CDS) in collaboration with District Transport Office and Lamka Driving School organized a one day Traffic Awareness Programme with a theme “Knowing is Not Enough… Practice It…!” on the 4th day of May 2013 (Saturday) at Y.P.A. General Headquarter Hall, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur, Manipur.
A total of 150 concerned citizens, who are mostly auto-drivers, School Van Drivers and various stakeholders including the concern transport department of Churachandpur District actively participated in the awareness programme.
The resource persons of the programme include the District Transport Officer, District Traffic Officer, Superintendent of Police and the Lamka Driving School.
The President, Community Development Society highlighted a brief background of the Awareness Programme, its genesis and its relevance in particular for Churachandpur Town, commonly known as ‘Lamka’, which is the Second largest town of the state and one of the fastest growing town for the state of Manipur.
The District Transport Officer and the District Traffic Officer in their session supplement one another by highlighting their roles and responsibilities and further put forth the need to follow traffic rules. They stated that, “the transport department of every city in general is responsible for providing a smooth transport for public on roads. The responsibility includes not just clearing up traffic jams but also, controlling pollution, keep an account of registered and unregistered vehicles and collecting fines for flouting traffic rules”. They further emphasised that driving has already become a dangerous experience in India, so also in our town, Lamka and most of our roads have become death traps. Vehicles are ever-increasing with people. Therefore, it is the responsible of all the concerned citizens to obey basic traffic rules and regulations so as to avoid untoward accidents.
The District Superintendent of Police, Shri. Mangkhogin Haokip, I.P.S. emphasized the role of a Police in providing safeguard, security and protection for the citizens in the town. He concluded by saying that the execution of the laws is significant which is a difficult undertaking. The growing number of road accidents is an important issue for everybody. Driving accidents are one of most the typical reasons behind increased amount of abrupt departures. Driving and traffic regulations help to guarantee a traffic create.
Shri. Sinzalam, Director, the Lamka Driving Schools on the other hand stated that society needs specific sets of rules as a way to live and prosper. Laws and the enforcement of them, is a major part for all societies and are among the most key elements that act as the basis of its own success. It is important to learn in regards to the traffic regulations of the state where you dwell also to follow them properly to be able to have safe road journey. These regulations cover a number of areas for example touring directions, speed limits as well as other connected issues. Proper training and recognition campaigns are designed in order to ensure that these ordinances are completely understood and adopted.
