SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PROJECT (SWMP)
The Solid Waste Management Project (SWMP) initiated by the Autonomous District Council (ADC) in Churachandpur, Manipur in 2018 aims to address health and sanitation issues by implementing a comprehensive waste management system. One of the key components of this project is the implementation of door-to-door garbage collection to ensure cleanliness and proper waste disposal practices within the town.
Involvement of NGOs in Garbage Collection:
As part of the SWMP, the ADC has outsourced the task of garbage collection to various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in the town. The Community Development Society (CDS) is one such NGO that plays a crucial role in conducting door-to-door garbage collection activities in collaboration with the ADC.
Door-to-Door Garbage Collection Frequency and Coverage:
The CDS, as a key partner in the SWMP, conducts door-to-door garbage collection three times a week in seven different localities within Lamka Town. This regular and systematic approach to waste collection ensures that households have access to proper waste disposal services and helps maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the community.
The SWMP implemented by the Autonomous District Council in Churachandpur, Manipur, underscores the importance of effective waste management practices for promoting public health, sanitation, and environmental sustainability. By engaging NGOs like the Community Development Society for door-to-door garbage collection initiatives, the project aims to create a cleaner and healthier living environment for residents of Lamka Town.
