CDS INFOTECH
Community Development Society, a non-governmental organization based in Churachandpur has been actively engaging in promoting holistic development among the people of Manipur. The organization has been set up by young and vibrant professional that have mobilized various resources and networked with various agencies to optimize its outreach.
Promoting digital literacy and ensuring digital access among youths has been a major focus area that Community Development Society has endeavored. In this endeavor, Community Development Society currently runs CDS INFOTECH – a Computer Training Centre that offers PMGDISHA course under Government of India’s Digital India initiative. This training centre is located in an easily accessible part of Lamka/Churachandpur with reliable internet connectivity uninterrupted power supply. The training centre is also a NIELIT-designated Facilitation Centre providing NIELIT’s Digital Literacy Courses as well as classes on Tally accounting software.
Mention may be made that Lamka/Churachandpur town, Manipur’s largest tribal town, is an important economic and educational center of Manipur, second only to Imphal. The Lamka/Churachandpur market and educational hub serves the needs of more than 3 lakh people, both within as well as outside Churachandpur District. The Banking Service Recruitment Board (BSRB) had earlier designated Lamka/Churachandpur town as an exam centre for banking recruitment; the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has also set up an exam centre code (5505). In 2012, 3500 candidates appeared in the SSC 10+2 exam centre in Lamka/Churachandpur, and produced 52 successful candidates from the centre. Other than BSRB and SSC, there are no other job-oriented exams being conducted in Lamka/Churachandpur.
Establishment of examination center is being pursued in consideration of the imminent needs of the youths. Manipur is not alien to violent protests in the form of bandhs, strikes, blockades, curfews and shutdowns. Impromptu roadblocks and violent protests have become recurrent, and such incidents are much more numerous in number in Imphal and the surrounding Valley than the Hill Areas. Recruitment exams held only in Imphal for the entire Manipur are not immune to these persistent violent protests. In such context, access to online examination has been constrained for many job aspirant from the Hill Areas, which is coupleed with the anxiety associated with such various forms of protests.
The absence of an exam centre for most recruitment exams in Lamka/Churachandpur could be attributed to the numerous and sometimes unverified perceived issues like inadequate number of candidates, security, lack of infrastructure, etc. Moreover, to set up an exam center in the hill districts of Manipur, proper IT infrastructure needs to be put in place. The absence of any technical institution or university other than in Imphal, is a possible deterrent for setting up an online-based exam center in the Hill Areas of Manipur.

Additionally, online examinations provide immediate results, reducing the waiting time for students.
Challenges in Conducting Online Recruitment Examinations
