MR. KHUPZALAL

Mr. Khupzalal, a resident of Thanlon village, includes a total of 7 members: Mr. Khupzalal himself, his wife, and their five children – three daughters and two sons. Mr. Khupzalal had to discontinue his studies after Class V, he made sure that his children received an education. He managed his children’s studies while working as a farmer, practicing Jhuming cultivation in Thanlon village. The family’s financial hardships made it difficult for them to maximize their income, yet they prioritized education for their children.

The family has been living in Thanlon village for generations, passing down their traditions and practices. The village is located about 150 km away from the district headquarters of Churachandpur in Manipur. Despite the challenges faced by the family in terms of access to resources and opportunities, they have managed to maintain their way of life and provide for their children’s education.

INCOME GENERATION FROM PIGGERY

Mr. Khupzalal, a beneficiary of the THEIHUAN Project – Piggery Farming, has been actively engaged in this livelihood programme from 2019-2024. The project provided him with 4 piglets and input support, which included timely vaccination services, shed construction, and feed management. The mature pigs started giving birth to piglets in 2020, resulting in a total production of 31 piglets over four years. Out of these, he sold 2 mature pigs in 2020 and 2021, and 1 mature pig each in 2023 and 2024. The income generated from selling these pigs and piglets amounted to Rs. 43,000 in 2020, Rs. 48,000 in 2021, Rs. 44,000 in 2023, and Rs. 68,300 (with one mature pig) in both 2023 and 2024. This brings the total income generated from piggery to Rs. 2,70,000 over the five-year period.

MAIN OCCUPATION AND FEED SUPPLEMENTATION

Rearing pigs has been the main occupation for Mr. Khupzalal since 2019. He grows Taro in his farm to supplement the feeding of the pigs. This ensures a consistent food supply for the pigs while also providing an additional source of income for Mr. Khupzalal. The income generated from the Piggery farming is vital in supporting his family & their children in their education. The text states that most of the income generated from the farm has been used for their livelihood.
